Cape Agulhas National Park is an ideal day trip. Here, you should also visit the lighthouse at the southernmost tip of Africa.

The real allure of the Arniston Spa Hotel is the village of Arniston itself. It offers a wealth of natural assets and unspoilt beauty.

The area is also known as "Waenhuiskrans". Literally translated it means 'ox-wagon cave' and takes its name from the famous low-tide cave which resembles the structures used by settlers to house their oxen and wagons.

The pretty thatched fishermen houses of Kassiesbaai, the oldest part of Arniston, were declared a South African National Monument. Its inhabitants are probably the most painted and photographed subjects in South Africa. Artists and photographers are welcomed.

The jagged coastline with its countless wrecks is a chilling tribute to the sea farers of yesteryear. Arniston derives its name from one of these wrecks, namely the British 'Arniston' which sank here in 1815. The vessel was loaded with wounded soldiers to take them from Ceylon via Cape Town back to England. Heavy winds had destroyed all the sails and it was eventually decided to cut away the three anchors and run the ship ashore. The Arniston broke up on the needle-sharp rocks of the Arniston Reef. Of the 378 passengers only 6 survived, rendering this disaster one of the most serious in the history of South Africa.

Kassiesbaai Traditional Dinner
Hotel guests are invited to take part in a traditional evening meal by candlelight in one of the fisher houses. The meals are prepared by the fishermen's wives.

Our Restaurant

The Arniston Spa Hotel's trademark is its selection of local sea fare. Our chef gets his inspiration from the world's largest larder, the sea, and begins his day at the fishing boats. Here the morning's catch, along with the availability of fresh shellfish, is the soul of a sophisticated menu blending old Cape Malay favourites with some modern eclectic innovations, complimented by an award winning wine list.

Guests may enjoy an elegantly presented meal in the hotel dining room, which also overlooks the Indian Ocean.

Menus are changed regularly and a copy of the evening's menu is available at the reception.

Cellar Dinners
We can arrange private Dinner Parties for between 10 and 34 people in the Hotel's Wine Cellar. Surround yourself with candles, wine and a unique atmosphere.

Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast is served in the main dining room from 07h00 till 10h00. You can choose between a continental and a hot breakfast. Lunch is served in the Hotel Bar and patio areas from 12h30 onwards.

Room Service
Room service menus are available to guests between 07h30 and 21h00.

Pad Kos
Food for the road is prepared for guests leaving the hotel and picnic baskets for those returning to the hotel.

Beverages and Light Snacks
Available throughout the day. The Hotel Bar is open from 10h30 till 22h30. Our large bar area has big-screen televisions and two unique large aquariums inhabited by local sea fish.

Poolfacing

These exquisitely furnished rooms have a balcony that overlooks the crystal clear hotel pool.

As the rooms are large, on request we can add extra beds for children. Some of the rooms have a separate lounge area and some have a fireplace where you can relax on those winter days.

The Pool Facing Rooms all have en-suite bathrooms, with both shower and bath (this is standard throughout the hotel).

The mini bar can be stocked on request and there are coffee/tea making facilities. The rooms also have satellite television.

Attractions

During your stay at the Arniston Spa Hotel you can entertain yourselves with fishing, mountain biking, kite flying, swimming, snorkeling, hiking, bird watching, whale watching (May to November). Squash, tennis and horseriding are all within 15 minutes drive.

Walks
The shortest walk is a two minute stroll to the harbour where you can watch the fishing boats come in. Next to the harbour you will find the historical fishing village of Kassiesbaai, which welcomes strollers and photographers.

A must at low tide is the walk to the Waenhuiskrans caves. The walk is 1,5 kms along the road and cliff tops and a small walk down the dunes. The cave is most spectacular.

Longer walks will take you to Struis Point, Galjoengat and to the De Mond Nature Reserve. This is a most beautiful walk for the moderately fit.

Fishing
There are many good fishing areas around Arniston. Should you require a "gilly" this can be arranged. If there is any tackle that you need please let us know. Our management and staff are keen fishermen! Deep sea fishing trips can be arranged on the "Chuckies". Tackle and bait are provided.

Beaches
The beach directly in front of the Hotel is good for swimming. Our main beach is along the road leading to the cave. Arniston is blessed with warm, shallow waters and safe bathing. Body boards are available.

Golf
An award winning 9 hole golf course is in Bredasdorp, 20 minutes from Arniston. If you have forgotten your clubs we have two sets that we can lend you.
