Buchu Bushcamp

Buchu Bushcamp accommodation naer the De Hoop Nature Reserve, Bredasdorp, Wesern cape

Description

Comfortably Rustic best describes the African Experience that is Buchu Bushcamp! Away from it all but not without a few essential home comforts; a warm fire in winter, an ice cold drink on a hot summer day and our speciality, traditional South African hospitality. Nestled in a sheltered valley of pristine lowland fynbos, Buchu Bushcamp is an ideal escape from the bustle of city life, a restful stopover midway between Cape Town and the Garden Route or a convenient base from which to explore the De Hoop Nature Reserve and Marine Sanctuary as well as the many places of interest in the Overberg.

All the chalets offer our guests a generous 40m2 en-suite bedroom and living area with an outside deck. Each chalets is carefully positioned to maximise privacy and all are accessed by separate boardwalks.

The chalets are equipped with bar fridges stocked according to your preference, a kettle and ample tea and coffee.

Two of the chalets are “very comfortable”, non-smoking bedrooms with en-suite showers. Both are equipped with twin beds with the option of a king-size double bed. There is also a sleeper couch in the living area.

The remaining three chalets offer “nearly-as-comfortable” en-suite accommodation with twin beds or one standard double bed. These chalets also have two single beds on a mezzanine level and a sleeper couch in the living area; comfortable for four but rather a squeeze for six! Ideal for a family or a group of close friends willing to share the en-suite shower.

Attractions

Perched 140m above the De Hoop Nature Reserve, walking trails within the immediate vicinity of the Buchu Bushcamp afford one spectacular views over the De Hoop vlei and coastline.

With over 265 species within the vicinity of the Bushcamp and De Hoop Vlei, a proclaimed RAMSAR wetland, Buchu Bushcamp is a popular destination for avid birders.

The 36,000 hectare De Hoop Nature Reserve is home to the Cape Mountain Zebra and Bontebok, two species that were on the brink of extinction and much of their recovery to work done at De Hoop.

The De Hoop Nature Reserve and Marine Sanctuary is the breeding ground of choice for Southern Right whales     that visit the African coastline between July and November each year. The high sand dunes and sandstone cliffs near Koppie Alleen offer some of the most spectacular land-based whale watching in the world.

Situated within the Cape Floral Kingdom, the vegetation is pristine Limestone Proteoid Fynbos, a low-land fynbos   with over 1,500 plant species. Although there’s a constant flush of new flowers throughout the year, some of the most spectacular shrubs, including the Protea  and Pincushion, are in full bloom between  June and September
