The ideal venue for a memorable honeymoon or a small sacred & romantic wedding reception, hidden away in the heart of the Klein Karoo where charm, romance and tranquility prevail.

Die Gat Guest House, a farmstead and historic monument, is situated in the valley of Middelplaas ( the farm in the middle ), near De Rust. It has been in the hands of numerous generations of the Schoeman family since the early 1800s.

Characteristics of the old homestead, such as the paint of German origin on the interior walls of the voorkamer (lounge), the original architectural form of the house and the picturesque environment have ensured that many a South African film has been shot here.

The guest rooms in the outbuildings, previously the school where the Schoeman children were educated, the cart-shed turned winepress, or even an ox wagon used by earlier generations, have been suitably furnished to give you a unique experience of the outdoors.

A visit to the farm and the daily routine, where you get to know the ostrich with its fatal kick, and a visit to the labourers and their families ensure that you get to know the people and life on a typical Klein Karoo farm.

The tranquility and peacefulness of Die Gat ensures an unforgettable sleep. You can even sleep with doors wide open so as not to miss the grumbling of ostriches.

You can also relax at the special pool of Die Gat, with its beautiful view of the majestic surroundings.

Honeymoon Cottage:

With chivalric charm and attention to detail, we invite you to spend your first evening of your honeymoon in our newly restored cottage. The spacious rooms are decorated with style and luxury - making sure that you get the Honeymoon you deserve.

The cottage consists of a bedroom/lounge, dressing room, bathroom(towels included) with big Jacuzzi bath, toilet and a shower. The room is equipped with a fire-place and sherry to keep you warm on those chili winter nights.

Attractions

The quaint village of De Rust, situated on the N12 (known also as the R62) might only be a dot on the map but it has one great advantage. It is just the right place for an overnight stop en route to one of many destinations.

Nestled between the Swartberg and Kammanassie mountains, the village is the gateway to the Great and Little Karoos -- the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern Cape, Free State, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

For many years De Rust was just a small village on the way from Beaufort West to the beautiful Garden Route. Apart from stopping for the essential bite to eat, no one took much notice of their surroundings. But things have changed. Wedding Venue

The venue caters for no more than 25 people, keeping it natural and intimate. We decorate the garden with candles and depending on the theme - accessories to help create the required atmosphere.

The food is prepared by your hosts, Anton and Susan, promising mouth-watering dishes in the traditional South African way. Susan loves attention to detail and will definitely make sure that everything is to your satisfaction.
