Mai s B&B Bed & Breakfast accommodation in Prince Albert Western Cape

Description

Centrally located within minutes of Mai's recommended vantage points for viewing the spectacular Karoo sunsets reflecting off the Groot Swartberg.

Mai's comfortable air-conditioned 19th century home in the tranquil village of Prince Albert, South Africa, is an ideal place to sit back and relax

Mai offers a choice of four comfortable, air-conditioned, spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom-en-suite. Two of the rooms have a double and a single bed - ideal for families. The other two bedrooms offer double or queen-sized beds. All rooms have a fridge-freezer for cold drinks on summer days, and everything you need to make tea or coffee. The bathrooms-en-suite have showers.

Mai's hearty breakfast consists of fruit juice, a wide choice of muesli and cereals, yoghurt and milk from Gay's Dairy and fruit in season, followed by scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, local sausages and tomatoes seasoned with basil from the garden. Then there's toast and locally made jams and preserves and tea or coffee. Breakfast is served in a sunny courtyard under the vines or, in winter, in front of the original Dover stove.

Mai's Guest Lodge lends itself to relaxing: enjoy a swim in the sparkling pool in its sheltered courtyard, Mai provides towels for your dip; laze on the front verandah or in the cosy lounge. Massage treatments, reiki, facials and manicures are available in the village.

Prince Albert can entertain you with art galleries, craft shops, star-watching with an astronomer, a ghost walk, a local story-teller, a fascinating village Museum, a wide range of architectural styles - including examples of a local gable, two wine cellars, farm visits, 4x4 and hiking trails and day trips into the Swartberg Pass, to Oudtshoorn and the Karoo National Park. The Swartberg Mountains are a World Heritage site.

Mai can recommend coffee shops and restaurants for teas, light lunches and dinners.

Prince Albert lies some 400km from Cape Town and 200km from the nearest airport in George. Nestling against the Swartberg Mountains, it grew from a farm: Kweekvallei, established in 1762 on the banks of a river whose source is sparkling springs in the Swartberg Mountains. The life-giving water was used to good effect to create an oasis in the otherwise dry Great Karoo. It still runs through the streets in bubbling furrows, nurturing fragrant gardens and adding a gentle murmur to the tranquil streets.

Your hostess, Mai, offers the very best of Irish hospitality and accommodation in Prince Albert. Cead mile failte - a hundred thousand welcome

Enjoy a hearty traditional breakfast  served on our private vine-shaded terrace or in the light-filled diningroom.
