Mossel Bay features in the Guinness Book of Records as having the mildest all year climate in the world second only to Hawaii. Its fascinating history grants the town its status as the historical capital of the Garden Route and one of the most significant coastal towns in South Africa.

Mossel Bay isn't called the Bay of Attractions for nothing.

With various beaches to choose from, access to the harbour as well as other river mouths and lagoon areas, it makes for a premier water sport destination. For the brave at heart Bungi Jumping from the Gouwritz River Bridge, or Deep Sea Fishing is on offer. As a family you enjoy a ride on the Outiniqua Choo Choo train or go whale watching. There are numerous world renowned golf courses within a 1 hour radius of Mossel Bay, such as Fancourt and Pinnacle Point.
The first post office on Southern African soil was founded at Mossel Bay in 1500 when Pedro da Ataide left a letter of importance in a shoe under a large Milkwood tree. Mail is still posted at the ancient post office - today a National Monument.

Many historical buildings and sights can be found in and around the area, such as; Cape St Blaize Cave (Bat's Cave), the Padrao, Munroe Book Cottages (1830), the Cape St Blaize Lighthouse (erected in 1864) and many more.
